OGUN WARNS CITIZENS AGAINST VIOLATING ENVIRONMENTAL LAW

 


The Prince Dapo Abiodun-led Government in Ogun State has called on citizens to imbibe environmental management culture, desist from dumping refuse in drainages, and displaying wares on walkways to prevent loss of lives and property.


The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Hon. Farouk Akintunde made this known in Ijebu-Ode axis during an enforcement tour in the area, saying the State government would continue to ensure that citizens inculcate the habit of regular cleaning of their immediate environment, as waiting for the government would no longer be tolerated.


Hon. Akintunde who frowned at the way people violate environmental laws implored traders to desist from displaying wares on pedestrian walkways, flowerbeds, underneath flyover bridges, and other unauthorised places across the State, noting that enforcement of Ogun State environmental law would soon take its full course.


"Maintaining a healthy environment is a collective responsibility of both the government and its citizens. Any action capable of degrading the environment will be checkmate, as the present administration had made it a priority to secure a healthy environment conducive for economic growth and wellbeing of its citizenry”, he said.


On his part, the Director, Environmental Health Management, Sanitarian Wemimo Onaeko stated that the government had on several occasions cautioned traders to desist from dumping waste in unauthorised places to avoid exposing their lives to diseases that could cause an epidemic outbreak.


        In an interview, a trader in Oke-Aje market in Ijebu-Ode lauded the steps taken by the government to curb dirt pollution across the State, adding that it was for the benefit of people.
