GOOD GOVERNANCE: IKENNE LG BOSS CHARGES POLITICAL FUNCTIONARIES TO WORK TOGETHER AS A UNITED TEAM

 


The Executive Chairman, Ikenne Local Government, Ogun State, Hon. Olusegun Ogunleye, has charged the newly-sworn-in political functionaries in the local government, to work together as a united and indivisible team, in order to actualise its mission of raising the standard of the local government to a higher level.


The Chairman stated this in his charge at the inaugural meeting he held with the Executive Council and the Management team of the local government at the conference room of the council secretariat, Ikenne, on Monday, 21st February, 2022.


Ogunleye who congratulated all the appointees ascribed their appointment to the grace of God, and the favour and consideration of both Governor Dapo Abiodun MFR, and the All Progressives Congress, Ogun State.

He urged them to always display absolute loyalty to the party, and the governments, at both the  state and local governments, as well as the people, who they have been appointed to serve.

Ogunleye admonished them to create a good working relationship with the management and staff, as they are the engine room of government, upon which the success or otherwise of any administration is rested.


"This administration is an open and transparent one, it is therefore important for us to work together in unity, in order to achieve our set target of providing dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroot", said the Chairman.


He charged them to intensify efforts on boosting the council's IGR, as funds are needed to actualise all the administration's lofty plans in various sectors like education, sports, health, youth and women empowerment, roads rehabilitation, and environmental sanitation, amongst others.


"You should all see yourself as revenue collectors for the local Government. Let us all have the political will to support and encourage the career staff in their line of duties. 

Through an improved IGR, the local government will be able to deliver on its core mandate of provision of good governance to the people at the grassroot", said the Chairman.


Most importantly, he charged them to be innovative and proactive, as they are expected to come up with ideas that will assist his administration to succeed, and leave the local government better than he met it, putting smile on the faces of the people, both young and old, particularly, the downtrodden masses.


Speaking further, the Chairman also enjoined the executive to extend hands of fellowship to the members of the legislative arm, in order to facilitate a smooth-running of the administration, through cooperation and collaboration in the formulation of bye laws that will promote the people's welfare.



Speaking at the meeting, the Head of Local Government Administration, Engr (Mrs.) Olanike Ogunbona FNSE, appealed to the appointees to cooperate with the career officers, and that they should also engender a cordial working relationship between them and the staff.


Responding, Mr Bayo David Solesi, Supervisor for Information, Education, and Sports, appreciated everyone present and assured that they will abide with the oath of allegiance and that there will be good working relationship, between them and all. 


On his part, Mr Rotimi Oshinowo, Secretary to the Local Government, also appreciated the opportunity given to them to serve in Ikenne Local Government, and promised that all hands will be on deck for the progress of the Local Government as a whole.


Present at the meeting were the Vice Chairman, Ikenne Local Government, Hon. Bolanle Fakoya; Supervisory Councillors; Special Advisers; Consultants; and Heads of Department.
