OGSG HARPS ON DATA CAPTURING OF FARMERS

 


  In its resolve to provide more dividends of democracy for the people, the present administration in Ogun State has enjoined farmers to get enlisted in the ongoing data registration in the State for easy identification and accessibility that will make it easier for the government to provide necessary support whenever the need arises.


The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. (Mrs.) Angel Adelaja-Kuye made this known while addressing members of All Farmers' Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Ijebu-Ode Chapter at the Local Government Secretariat.


Adelaja-Kuye said such registration would further strengthen their relationship with the government which would in turn, make farmers enjoy more dividends of democracy and other interventions.


She enumerated different areas of intervention on agricultural matters such as value chain and health care programme, among others, which the farmers could benefit from, if they register, saying her office is opened for discussions as regards the development of farming in the State.


Speaking, the Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Alhaji Emilola Gazal reiterated the commitment of his administration to focus on agriculture with plans to procure farmlands for the cultivation of oil palm, charging the AFAN members to mobilise themselves to participate in the ongoing data registration of farmers in the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat, Itoro.


"Since the inception of this administration, I have made contacts in securing some farm lands at Isiwo for the purpose of palm oil plantation, and we believe that with the intervention of the State government, it will be a reality, hence the need to do your part in the data registration exercise", he said.


Earlier, the Chairman, AFAN, Ijebu Ode Chapter, Engr. Ademola Shote, highlighted the specialised area of the Association to include, livestock, agrochemical, fishery and mushroom farming, among others and sought for the State and the Local Governments' intervention in the provision of agricultural equipment to ease production of farm produce, saying the best experts of farmers are in Ijebu Ode.
