Ogun Compensates Lafenwa Tanker Fire Victims, Warns Against Attack On Public Officers

 


In keeping with its promise to traders of Lafenwa Market affected by the petrol tanker inferno which occured on Tuesday, 28th November 2021, the Ogun State Government has compensated the affected victims, warning  that it would  no longer tolerate any form of attack on  its public officers carrying out their statutory duties. 


The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter -Governmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo, while performing the official payment of the compensation at Valley View, Government House, Isale- Igbein, to Representatives of  the affected traders, also  issued the riot- act  to  some miscreants who attacked fire fighters and their equipments during the fire incident saying, any one caught in such act would be arrested and handed to the police for prosecution.


Ogunbanwo who served as Chairman of the State Government Special Committee On Lafenwa Market Fire, expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for quick release of funds as   financial assistance to all victims of the fire incident


The commissioner who said the Prince Abiodun's administration had repositioned relevant government's agencies managing fire disaster/incident, also charged officers and men of the State Fire Service to be more efficient and effective in the   management of fire incidents in the state


According to him,"the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration has approved the construction of new Fire Service Stations in other areas of our state, approved the purchase of new fire-fighting vehicles and modern equipments with the aim of mitigating losses in the event of any fire outbreak.


"We have also embarked on training of our fire officials through adoption of world best practices and technology. We are confident that the ongoing massive Infrastructural develoments, across our dear state were carefully designed and built to avert the effect of fire incidents."


He asked the affected traders to see the compensation as a demonstration of the present administration's commitment to their Welfare


Also speaking , the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuape, who is a member of the committee eulogised  the governor for acting promptly on the recommendation of the committee for the release of the compensation to relief the traders


In the same vein, the President General of the Ogun Markets Women , Alhaja Oluwayemisi Abass also showered encomium on the government for the gesture , saying the compensation would go a long way in assisting  the traders to restart their businesses.


One of the beneficiaries, David Okafor, who sells second hand cloths at the market, equally appreciated the financial support on behalf of the traders
