NFWP, OKO’WO DAPO’VE REDUCED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE- DEPUTY GOVERNOR

 


Nigeria For Women Project (NFWP), alongside the ‘Okowo’ Dapo initiatives has improved the lives of the people, especially women, and reduced cases of domestic violence in various homes across Ogun State.


The Deputy Governor, Engr. Salako-Oyedele who is also the NFWP, Chairman, Ogun State Sterling Committee, stated this in Abeokuta during the Mid-term Review Mission of the NFWP, saying the Scheme has a multiplier effect on the economy of the State, as it provides market linkages for goods and services produced by women and improve their overall livelihood.


“This is indeed a worthwhile initiative as it has improved the lives of the people, especially women in the State, and has also helped to reduce cases of domestic violence in our communities, our women are now empowered, they have all the right skills to be independent. We will continue to monitor and ensure sustainability”, She said.


Engr. Salako Oyedele noted that efforts are being made to ensure that there is continuous monitoring of the beneficiaries for sustainability, increased human capacity building and access to more finance for self-reliance, as well as improved family life.


In his contribution, the Task Team Lead, World Bank, NFWP, Mr. Michael Illesanmi, said the team had visited two Local Government Areas to interact with project beneficiaries, and some women Affinity groups, adding that one of their partners, Bill and Mellinda foundation had invested a trust fund of 12 million dollars to deepen the implementation of the project and the support of the government.


Earlier in her remark, the State Coordinator, NFWP, Mrs. Bolanle Fadairo, commended the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for supporting women through various empowerment initiatives since assumption of office, noting that the State had upscaled the project in all the 20 Local Government Areas.
