The ongoing construction of the Gateway Agro Cargo Airport in Illisan-Remo area of Ogun State is beginning to take shape, as the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led government intensifies its effort to deliver the project in record time.

The Senior Project Manager, Mr. Nicholas Mfarrej who conducted the media team of the Governor led by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile around the facilities made this known while speaking with journalists after the inspection.

Mfarrej disclosed that the foundation of the control tower and the terminal building are 1.5m into the ground while the 4km runway already asphalted has extra 140m leveled ground on both sides for flight safety, stating that the firefighting station, apron, and taxi way are enjoying noticeable progress.

The Manager said the airport project is sitting on 8500 hectares of land with a 16km airport fence, adding that over 550 artisans from the local community are presently working at the construction site.

On his part, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Odusile who appreciated the development said “when the project is completed, it will create thousands of jobs for the teeming youths, men and women”, affirming that it would indirectly help to eradicate crime and criminality in the society.

Odusile said the airport would boost economic activities and increase the internally generated revenue of the State, adding that the present administration would continue to judiciously use taxpayers’ money for the benefit of all.

He revealed that the first aeroplane would land at the airport by December, saying “we have done everything to ensure that this project among others is commissioned by the President in December”.
