OUR EDUCATION REVITALISATION ’LL PROMOTE SANITY IN SCHOOLS-PROF. ARIGBABU

Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu has emphasised that the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA) of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration will further promote sanity in schools across the State.

OGSERA includes Issuance of a Learners Identification Number (LIN) to students in public primary and secondary schools, 70 percent attendance as a prerequisite for examinations, and signing of Undertaking Forms by the parents and guardians, among others.

Prof. Arigbabu stated this in Abeokuta, during the courtesy visit by the Old Students’ Association of Egba Comprehensive High School, Asero, Abeokuta, pointing out that OGSERA, is a systematic approach toward discouraging indiscipline and examination malpractices among learners.

He disclosed that principals have been given discipline guidelines to enable them to sanction erring learners based on the provision of the guidelines, adding that parents and guardians are now more cautious with the signing of the undertaking on behalf of their wards.

"If you monitor our activities in schools all-round the State, you will see that the rate of absenteeism and truancy has reduced drastically", Arigbabu said.

The Commissioner expressed gratitude to the old students of the school for the ongoing massive rehabilitation around the school compound, saying the involvement of the Old Students’ Association in school development cannot be over-emphasised.

Speaking earlier, the National President of the Association, Engr. 'Lanre Bisiriyu commended the Education Ministry for the steps taken in providing a conducive learning atmosphere and for restoring normalcy to the school after the untoward behaviour of some learners towards the end of last term.

Engr. Bisiriyu stated that the Association is embarking on many projects, such as the renovation of boys and girls’ hostels, construction of perimeter fencing, provision of solar power and borehole, renovation of hostel kitchen, employment of two So-Safe Corps Officers as night guards, imploring the government to include the school among the flagship schools in the State.
