Local Government officials in Ogun State have been charged to adhere strictly to procurement law and process, which was set up to regulate all procurement activities of government across the State.

          The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adesina Olanloye gave the charge in Abeokuta, during a day course and update meeting on Strategic Development and Due Process in Public Procurement, organised for Procurement Planning Committee members in the Local Government offices.

          Dr. Olanloye emphasised the need for the committee members to get acquainted with the procurement laws for implementation and incorporate them into their procurement activities.

          He explained the e-procurement process and the approved workflow chart is available on the Ogun State Website, identifying the fundamental principles of the procurement process prescribed by law as Accountability, Transparency, Open Competitiveness, Fairness, and Professionalism, stressing that Local Government officials must take the cardinal principles as their watchwords while engaging in Public Procurement for their Local Government Areas.

          "Public Procurement is the use of public funds by public entities for the delivery of public goods, works and services usually through a third party with the aim of achieving value for taxpayers’ money", he said.

          Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Adeolu Olufowobi, said the essence of the training was to set a standard and new template for procurement, as well as to get commensurate value for every money spent.

          Speaking on behalf of the participants, the Director of Management Services in the Commission, Mr. Lekan Oderinde, appreciated the Bureau for the knowledge imparted in the participants, which would help them in their day-to-day procurement activities.
