ENSURE BEST ACCOUNTING PRACTICES IN YOUR MDAs - HoS CHARGES ACCOUNTANTS

Ogun State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro has charged newly upgraded officers in the Accounting cadre of the Civil Service, to imbibe best accounting practices and transparency in their various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Aigoro gave the charge in Abeokuta, while declaring open a 2-day orientation programme for the new Accountants, saying personal investment and development are antidotes needed to be better equipped for greater responsibilities, while keeping pace with global trends that would enhance their productivity.

He restated the need for continuous training and retraining of officers and the entire workforce, commending the Office of the Accountant-General for the programme.

Speaking earlier, the Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary, Treasury Office, Mr. Tunde Aregbesola, said the seminar was organised to give the newly upgraded officers the necessary training that would prepare them for the tasks ahead.

While underscoring the importance of the seminar, Aregbesola said, “it is not enough to be upgraded as Accountants, you must be well equipped for the assignment before you. It is a highly competitive market and seniority alone will not take you to the top, but doggedness and hard work will make you stand out".

Some of the papers presented at the seminar include, Budget Process and Implementation: The roles of MDAs, Government Accounting Procedures and the Legal Backing, Overview of the Public Procurement in Ogun State, Work Ethics, Values, Attitude and Performance, as well as the Importance of Information Technology in Accounting.

Other dignitaries at the programme are the Permanent Secretaries, Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mrs. Funmilayo Dada, Bureaux of Establishments and Training and State Pensions, Mrs. Lydia Fajounbo and Mr. Olukunle Sodeinde respectively.
