Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the medical outreach programme as a noble initiative that his administration will continue to support for the all-round benefit of the people.

Governor Abiodun made this known at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, during a five-day free pediatric surgery expedition, organised by the State government in collaboration with Leicester Children's Hospital.

Abiodun said, "This marks a new relationship between Ogun State and the Leicester Children's Hospital, and we are going to further explore how to deepen that relationship and collaboration”.

He noted that government would intensify effort to improving the quality and service delivery of medical personnel, as well as the well-being of the people, saying “In the last three years, the present administration has increased the number of ambulances from five to over 50, and supported by tricycle ambulances which have the capacity to access the primary health care centers where vehicle ambulances cannot reach”.

The State helmsman stated that services provided at the primary health care facilities had received a boost through technology, to make data gathering, storage and sharing easier among the secondary and tertiary levels of health care .

In her remarks, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker stated that the exercise was an epoch-making moment for the OOUTH and the country as a whole, saying the outreach targets about 200 indigent children.

Coker added that the leadership style of Governor Abiodun had encouraged collaboration, inclusiveness and innovation from partners, as well as  gingered the government to upgrade infrastructure and invest in the provision of modern medical equipment.

Speaking, the Chief Medical Director, OOUTH, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase said no fewer than 200 indigent children with medical cases such as Hernia and Hydrocele, Undescended Testes, Hypospadias, Hirshsprung disease, Anorectal malformations, Lumps and Swelling, would benefit from the free medical surgery.

Dr. Fatungase stated that the programme would give the less privileged the opportunity to be treated and operated at no cost and reduce medical tourism.
