The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has assured that a team from the State Public Works Agency would commence palliative work at Iju bridge, along Ota-Idiroko road to curtail incessant accidents in the axis.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele made this known in Abeokuta during a meeting with stakeholders and relevant agencies, in response to the agitations on the recurring accidents in the Ado-Odo/Ota axis, adding that the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corp (TRACE) had been mandated to set up a task force with the Tricycle Unions in the area and put in place road signs along the area to ensure enforcement of traffic regulations.
The Deputy Governor informed that the bus stop close to the bridge would be relocated, while tricycles would be restricted from loading passengers, which leaves them vulnerable to incidences emanating from overloaded vehicles and trucks.
She added that transport Unions had been told to properly sensitise their members on the need to safeguard lives and property, and properly screen those who operate on the road to prevent accidents in the axis.
Engr. Salako-Oyedele said "the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure has been directed to liaise with the consultant working on the redesigning of the Ota-Idiroko road to take into consideration the observations from this meeting to ensure that it is incorporated into the design of the road before the final approval for its reconstruction".
Stakeholders at the meeting include, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, his Transport and Information counterparts, Engr. Gbenga Dairo and Alhaji AbdulWaheed Odusile respectively, TRACE Corps Commander, Seni Ogunyemi, Member, Ado-Odo/Ota State Constituency 1, Hon. Sheriff Yusuf, Chairman, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Adewale Musa and three members of the Tricycle Union leaders in the area.
