Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu says better development and growth can be achieved when there is a peaceful society and co-existence among people of different ideologies, cultural and religious backgrounds.
Arigbabu made this known in Abeokuta, during a courtesy visit by the Society for Peace Study and Practice (SPSP), led by its President, Dr. Olasunkanmi Osundina, saying the present administration would continue to engage relevant organisations in promoting peace.
While speaking on the year 2022 International Day of Peace with the theme: “End Racism, Build Peace”, the Commissioner stated that it was important to instill the attitude of peaceful resolution in the young ones at a very tender age, revealing government’s readiness to establish peace clubs in schools, to encourage learners emulate actions that would propagate peace, progress and development.
According to him, “it is important that we inculcate the habit of peace and resolution early in our young ones, it will pave the way for a better nation. We will continue to encourage and support associations like yours. I want to assure you that we will collaborate with you to put in place peace clubs in all our schools”.
In his submission, the President, SPSP, Dr. Osundina said there was a need to end tribalism and inequality among the citizens of the country, by inculcating the culture of peace-keeping among young and old Nigerians.
Osundina stated that the establishment of peace clubs in schools was to build and encourage socialisation and co-existence in children at a very young age to inspire harmony that would bring about consensus and developmental projects in the country.
