OGUN PROPOSES N109.219B FOR EDUCATION SECTOR IN 2024



A sum of N109.219.62 billion has been earmarked for the Education sector in the next fiscal year to the State House for consideration and approval.


Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, said this during the presentation of the year 2024 proposed budget, tagged: The Budget of Sustainable Growth and Development at the State House of Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.


Abiodun stated that the budget proposal includes refurbishment and renovation of Technical Colleges and Vocational Centers, as well as construction and rehabilitation of blocks of classrooms and Technical Workshop/Science Laboratory at the Primary and Secondary Schools with the provision of furniture and equipment across the four division of the state.


The Governor noted Education and Human Capital Development under his ISEYA pillar would remain key priorities in his vision for the state.


According to him, ‘’Upon assumption in office, I met a near comatose educational system. Knowing the dangers this posed to our future development and positioning as a State, I immediately declared a state of emergency in the sector. My team and I immediately went to work and invested significantly in the education sector, focusing on infrastructure development, capacity building for teachers, and access to quality education.


‘’Through our “Yellow Roof Revolution” investment drive we delivered the renovation and construction of over 1,200 classrooms and buildings across all 234 wards in the State together with over 50,000 new desks and chairs, provision of learning materials, and the implementation of the OgunDigiClass initiative, which utilises technology for virtual learning, have greatly improved the learning environment and outcomes for students. We have also established technical and vocational training centers to equip youths with relevant skills for employment and entrepreneurship’’.


In his remarks, the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon Olakunle Oluomo said that the presentation of the proposed budget was an indication of the vibrancy of the present administration in the state.


Speaker Oluomo, pledged that the legislature would give the proposal expedited passage to ensure prompt implementation of the budget, assuring that the House of Assembly would continue to cooperate with the executive arm of government in the passage of laws and resolutions that would facilitate the provision of the needed infrastructural facilities and other necessities that would make life more meaningful to the people of the state.
