About 3,000 residents of Odeda local government from the free medical outreach organized by Shalom Global Medical Missions, a non-governmental organization (NGO) from the United States of America in conjunction with the executive Chairman of Odeda local government, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD 

A 2-day community health program took place at Odeda local government primary health center, Obantoko area of Ogun state.

The foundation distributed free eyeglasses and treatment for those with sight ailments, Diabetes Screening and Management, Hypertension, Disease Management, men's Health, Medical Education, Mental health, Wound Care, drug distribution, and general body check-ups.

The outreach drew an overwhelming response from the local residents, with a large turnout from Ward One to Ward Ten in the local government many of whom face struggles in accessing adequate healthcare due to financial limitations.

People from various socioeconomic backgrounds patiently lined up to avail of the free medical services. 

In her remarks, the chairman of Odeda local government, Hon. Folasade Adeyemo, PhD applauded the beneficiaries for the large turnout, urging them to take good care of their health and seek medical attention when the need arises.

She expressed great appreciation to the conveners, Shalom Global Medical Mission, USA,  Elder Adeyinka Shoremekun,  Dr. (Mrs) Alice Shoremekun, and members of their team for the partnership and the provision of quality health care for her people in Odeda local government and its environs.

"This event signifies our commitment towards improving our people's lives which is one of our agendas for our people.

“It is usually said that a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. Therefore, this medical outreach will in no small way contribute to the health of my people here in Odeda local government, Adeyemo said.

Speaking at the event, the founder, Shalom Global Medical Missions Dr. (Mrs) Alice Shoremekun said the program was aimed at saving the lives of the people living with communicable and non-communicable diseases in the community.

She said: “The program is one of the medical public/private partnerships, with the support and guidance from other NGOs built to sustain the valuable health program.”

She stressed that the program had created awareness for the people to know their health status and provided solutions to their health challenges.

Dr. Shoremekun indicated that the program was one of the pillars of the mission, providing free healthcare services to the people in the community with no charges attached or attracted.

Beneficiaries of the outreach could not hold back their appreciation as they recounted their experiences before and after the medical outreach in their community

Speaking to our correspondent,  a 73-year-old resident of Osiele,  Elder Fashola Olusoji, said the medical practitioners who attended to him and others were thorough in their examinations and gave him drugs and medical advice about his health and the effects of old age.

He praised and appreciated the organizers, as he said it has positively impacted many residents.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Adelere Mufuli, from Olódò ward, who had a snake spat on her eyes, noted that: “I couldn’t see or read well, coupled with the fact that snake spat on me. However, these people gave me reading glasses, and I can see the improvement.”

“Before now, I had no idea that my blood pressure was high. The chairman Adeyemo people did the blood pressure test and counseled me on new lifestyle habits to adopt. This is as they prescribed some drugs for me, and gave me a reading class,”  Mr Rotimi Lawani from Obantoko ward.

While appreciating on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mrs. Abosede Kehinde and Mr. Kamorudeen Olaleye who are residents of Obete and Opeji respectively, commended the local government chairman, Hon Folasade Adeyemo, and her team for the initiative and promised to use the drugs being given as prescribed.
