A new pope has been elected at the Vatican, following the traditional conclave of cardinals in the Sistine Chapel.
White smoke rose from the chimney above the chapel, signaling to the world that the cardinals have reached a decision.
This marks the end of their secret voting process.
It is understood that the newly elected pope is currently being guided into a small room next to the Sistine Chapel, known as the “Room of Tears,” where he will change into the official white papal robes for the first time.
