In a bid to promote socio-economic wellness of people at the grassroots, Sagamu Local Government has charged residents, particularly Market men and women in the area to prioritise healthy living by ensuring a cleaner environment always.
The Chairman, Sagamu Local Government, Hon. Jubril Odulate said this while monitoring the weekly environmental sanitation in the area, emphasising the need for people to cultivate the habit of keeping the market clean on daily basis without being monitored and forced, saying such hygienic culture would steadily curtail outbreak of diseases and ensure healthy living standard.
“I want to implore that you keep your environment clean at all times, particularly the market, to prevent outbreak of disease, because a clean environment promotes healthy living,” he said.
He admonished them to always ensure proper refuse disposal and stop the habit of dumping refuse in drainages and waterways to forestall flooding, advising them to maintain high level of personal and environmental hygiene.
According to the Chairman "Always ensure that you dispose your refuse at the authorised places, it does not show that we are civilised, when people are seeing disposing their refuse in the drainage. It could cause flooding that can destroy property and lead to outbreak of strange disease in the community.”
Responding, the Iyaloja of Remoland, Chief Mrs. Olasode Oduwaye, appreciated the Council Chairman, promising to enforce the periodic sanitation exercise for the wellness of all traders.
She commended the efforts of the present administration at transforming and rehabilitating all markets to global standard across the State, pledging that all market men and women in Remo axis would continue to support the ‘building our future together’ agenda of Governor Abiodun’s administration.
