ODOGBOLU LG PARTNERS E-COMMERCE COMPANY TO PROMOTE YOUTH ENGAGEMENT IN SPORTS

As part of the ongoing Ogun State Sports Festival, Clearer, an Innovative E-commerce Solutions Company, has partnered with the Odogbolu Local Government Area to promote youth engagement in the Nigeria Federation of e -Sports.

This collaboration was aimed at boosting digital inclusion and empowering young people through competitive gaming.

The Chairman, Odogbolu Local Government, Dr.  Babatunde Diya disclosed this while speaking at the Oladipo Diya Library—venue of the e-Sports competition, saying the initiative would be a significant step in youth empowerment through sports in the area.

“I saw the opportunity as soon as the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Sports Commission led by Bukola Olopade introduced the e=Sports initiative. I also thank our amiable leader, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for the chance to serve and for supporting e-Sports during the Gateway Games Festival,” Dr. Diya stated.

According to him “If it’s happening at the Federal and State levels, there’s no reason it shouldn’t happen at the Local level. As one of the youngest Local Government Chairman, I believe in deliberately creating opportunities for our youth.”

The Chairman also revealed a prize pool of N1 million for winners of the inaugural competition, emphasising that the initiative is about more than just rewards.

“Our aim is to build a Local Government e-Sports team to represent Odogbolu in future competitions—statewide, nationally, and internationally. We're scouting talents, providing training, and laying the groundwork for a digital sports facility right here,” he affirmed.

Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria Federation of e-Sports,  Damilola Pedro,  praised the initiative as a bold step in growing e-Sports in Nigeria, highlighting its potential in a $180 billion global industry.

She commended Dr. Diya for his visionary leadership and commitment to grassroots development.

“This initiative in Odogbolu is a perfect example of how e-Sports can drive youth engagement, economic progress, and educational growth. By involving schools and communities, we can unlock vast opportunities in the e-Sports sector, both locally and globally,” Pedro said.

Also speaking with newsmen, Bolanle Olayoriju, Head of Corporate Affairs at Clearer, reiterated the company’s dedication to empowering youth through digital innovation.

“Our partnership with the council reflects our mission to foster youth empowerment through e-commerce and digital sports,” she said. “Clearer offers cutting-edge payment solutions for individuals and businesses. We believe in leveraging technology and e-Sports as powerful tools for development—and Odogbolu shares that vision,” she submitted.
