"Waste is not just something to be discarded. It is a resource that can generate wealth when properly managed. I want to encourage our residents to start collecting and store recyclable items such as PET bottles, cans, cartoons and Sachet nylons saying this materials can be exchanged for cash when sold to waste collectors. These collectors then supply the recyclables to factories and industries as raw materials.

Our goal is to educate our community on how to convert waste into useful products and even business opportunities," the councilor stated.

Practical demonstrations on waste segregation, composting, and recycling were also conducted, giving residents  firsthand experience in sustainable waste management techniques.

The councilor further disclosed plans to establish waste collection centers and partner with local recyclers to ensure that residents can benefit economically from the waste they produce adding that a waste collection center is already at No 2b, Akayin Ode Lane Balogun Kuku Road, Beside Ajigbo Compound, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Residents were encouraged to adopt the sustainable practices demonstrated and to spread the knowledge gained to others in their communities.

This initiative aligns with Ogun State’s broader agenda on environmental sustainability and waste management, making Ijebu Ode Local Government a model for other communities in the state.
