“I’m ready to do anything Mr President tells me” – Barau declares total loyalty to Tinubu

Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as his “political father” and pledging to carry out any directive from the President.

“I am ready to do anything Mr President tells me to do. He is my political father,” Barau declared on Wednesday while addressing National Assembly correspondents during a briefing on the upcoming Constitution Review Town Hall Meetings.

Barau described Tinubu as a magnanimous leader who has consistently stepped in to assist others, recalling how the President supported him during political turbulence in Kano State.

“The President saved me when I was in murky political waters,” he said.

He added that Tinubu’s success is a shared victory for all progressives.

“When the President succeeds, we all succeed. That is what true progressives do,” he noted.

On the Constitution review process, Barau stressed the Senate’s commitment to an inclusive, people-driven amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

He disclosed that the Senate Committee on Constitution Review has received numerous memoranda and bills from Nigerians and civil society organisations.

“To ensure that every Nigerian is heard, we are organising zonal public hearings. Not all citizens can travel to Abuja,” he said.

The town hall meetings will hold simultaneously across the six geopolitical zones on July 4 and 5, 2025.

Barau emphasized that all Nigerians, regardless of class or profession, are welcome to participate.

“We currently have about 59 proposed bills, including those seeking the creation of new states. But the scope is open. We are ready to listen to fresh ideas and demands from citizens,” he said.

He urged the media to support the initiative by raising awareness and encouraging citizens to get involved.

“The media plays a critical role in ensuring Nigerians are aware of these opportunities to shape the Constitution. We need your help,” he appealed.

Barau also commended the Senate Committee on Constitution Review for initiating the town halls and expressed confidence in their success
