OGSG TO COMMENCE SECOND ROUND OF IMMUNIZATION FOR WOMEN, CHILDREN

 


The Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board in collaboration with Development Partners is bracing up for the Second round of 2025 National Immunizations Plus Days (NIPDs 2), Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) and MMS for pregnant women in Ogun State, following the Stakeholders meeting with Parent Teachers Association (PTA), National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Religious Leaders, various tribes among others. 


Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola speaking at the meeting in Abeokuta, said the upcoming events were in the interest of the children and women to curb maternal and child death and preventable diseases, adding that women and children were vulnerable due to their low level of immunity and therefore the system must support them.


Ogunsola informed that the meeting was to sensitise Stakeholders on the upcoming second round NIPDs, MNCH which aims to vaccinate children aged zero to 59 months with Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), Vitamin A supplementation, Human Papilloma Virus Vaccination (HPV) against cervical cancer for girls of age 9 as well as  Micronutrients supplement for pregnant women,  commencing from June 28 to July 1, 2025, in Health Facilities, Fixed/Temporary posts, House to House, Churches, Schools, Markets, Village Squares, Motor parks among others.


The Director, Disease Control and Immunization, Dr. Thomas Solarin, while speaking on the importance of vaccination said it had saved lives in the past by reducing stillborn to the barest minimum, adding that parents and caregivers should not deny the children vaccination as the vaccine protect the children throughout their lifespan.


In their goodwill messages, the State Coordinator, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Victoria Adebiyi and Dr. Olufemi Adeyemi from UNICEF appreciated the stakeholders and urged them to enlighten the people around them on the importance of vaccination as every child should be given the opportunity of a purposeful life, hence the need to get vaccinated to prevent future health deformity.


Speaking on behalf of the Stakeholders, Mr. Olusegun Folorunso pledged their support in ensuring success of the campaign in their localities for better outcomes of the campaign.
