The 86 year old PhD Graduant of Tai Solarin University of Education, Col. Bolaji Onafowokan who was rewarded with cash award of N2.5Million for being the oldest graduate ever in the country has commended the government of Prince Dapo Abiodun for his investments in education which has engender total transformation of the sector.
It would be recalled that the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele on behalf of the Governor announced awarding the octogenarian and Adedeji Abdulateef, the Overall Best Graduating Student of the Department of Mathematics with N2.5million, while 33 other best graduants from each faculty, for the 2024 academic year of the institution were promised N500 Thousand Naira each.
The Octogenarian who was absent during the presentation of the cheques, to other beneficiaries by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu in April, 2025 appreciated the generosity of the Governor, saying he had never seen a government given that much to appreciate excellent performance.
Speaking in his Office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta during the presentation of the cash award, the Commissioner Prof. Arigbabu said Dr. Onafowokan was honoured to appreciate his courage of attaining PhD, Educational Tech at his old age.
Prof. Arigbabu reiterated the commitment of Prince Dapo Abiodun's administration to further encourage outstanding performance and healthy academic rivalry among students in order to make the State retain its glory as the best, when it comes to education.
"You will recollect that recently, the Governor received two Best Graduating Students of Lagos State University, who scored 5 over 5 GPA, gave them cash awards and made them education Ambassadors", Arigbabu said.
