North has nothing to regret for supporting Tinubu’s government, says Bagudu

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has stated that the North remains fully represented in President Bola Tinubu’s administration and has no reason to feel marginalised or regret its political support.

Speaking on Wednesday at a technical session during the two-day Government–Citizens’ Engagement organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Bagudu said the Tinubu administration is fair, inclusive, and committed to national unity.

He said: “Those of us privileged to be part of this government are vigilant and committed to protecting the interests of the North. There is no systemic discrimination in this administration.”

Bagudu described claims of marginalisation as unfounded, insisting that appointments in the current administration reflect national character and are based on competence and merit.

He urged Northern citizens not to be swayed by divisive rhetoric aimed at creating distrust between regions.

“The Tinubu administration is focused on national development that benefits all Nigerians,” he said.

The minister noted that Tinubu inherited an economy facing serious structural challenges, including an unsustainable fuel subsidy regime, forex distortions, dwindling reserves, and a high fiscal deficit.

He said the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is anchored on bold reforms to stabilise the economy and create inclusive growth.

According to him, key policy moves such as fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate unification, tax adjustments, and restoration of fiscal discipline are already yielding positive results.

“For instance, Adamawa received N9.76 billion in May 2023, but by June 2025, the same state received N22.73 billion due to improved revenue performance after subsidy removal,” he said.

Bagudu said the government’s focus is shifting from stabilisation to inclusive growth, with new emphasis on poverty reduction, infrastructure, and productivity.

The minister called on Northern leaders to engage with institutions like the National Assembly to ensure regional priorities are reflected in national plans and budgets
