Barrister Olufemi Adeleke Ogunbanwo (Omo‑Iwa), Member of the House of Representatives for Ijebu Central Federal Constituency, mourns alongside the sons and daughters of Ijebu, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as all well‑meaning Nigerians, on the passing of our revered father, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona Ogbagba II (GCON), the Awujale of Ijebu land. His death was announced on Sunday, 13th July, 2025.
Recollecting the legacy of the late monarch, Omo‑Iwa pays tribute to his invaluable contributions to Ijebu land and Nigeria at large. Since his coronation in October 1960 - pre‑independence, Oba Adetona held the distinction of being the longest‑serving monarch in modern Nigerian history.
The federal lawmaker recalls personal meetings with Kabiyesi and the profound insights he imparted-born of decades of experience and wisdom.
Barrister Ogunbanwo urges that the memory of Kabiyesi be honored through the continuation of the causes he cherished for Ijebu and the wider nation. He prays for the repose of his soul and for comfort for all who mourn his departure.
