2023 LG AUDIT REPORTS: OGUN ASSEMBLY COMMENDS IJEBU NORTH, REVIEWS REMO NORTH, EWEKORO LGs' ACCOUNTS

 


The Ogun State House of Assembly, through its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption chaired by Hon. Damilare Bello, today began the consideration of the 2023 reports of the Auditor- General for Local Governments with a commendation to Ijebu North Local Government for improved fund management and overall performance during the year under consideration.


The House Committee Chairman, in company of his Vice, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi and other members including Honourables Adebisi Oyedele, Babatunde Tella, Folawewo Salami, Dickson Awolaja, Samisudeen Lawal, Adegoke Adeyanju, Yusuf Amosun and Oluwaseun Adesanya, noted that the exercise was meant to fulfill constitutional responsibility of the legislative arm as stated in section 129 of the nation’s constitution in ensuring due diligence and create value for public funds.


He acknowledged that the local government council had improved on its compliance with its financial records, requesting the officials led by the Chairman, Mr. Bolaji Odusanya, to clear other outstanding documents required including all payment receipts by contractors with the office of the Auditor General for Local Governments.


He directed the office of the Auditor General for Local Governments to in turn inspect all listed projects in its follow up; to ensure projects are executed as planned.


Taking on Remo-North Local Government, the House Committee charged the Council Chairman, Mr. Olumuyiwa Sodade, to strengthen the council's financial administration;  acknowledging that the ongoing report of the  Auditor-General was an improvement compared to the previous years.


Hon. Bello urged the council to close all dormant accounts, improve internally generated revenue and disengage non-performing revenue contractors.


The Committee also directed that an invitation be extended to one Mr. Tunji Teriba, Chief Executive Officer of Terry Global Concept, over an allegation of non-remittance of revenue accrued from the Hotel beloging to the Local Government Council. This, it noted was with a view to taking necessary measures to safeguard council finances and improve accountability.


In the same vein, Ewekoro Local Government, represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Adewale Aladeselu, was also lauded for its presentation before the Committee. 


Responding, the House Committee Chairman directed the management of the Local Government Council to submit a comprehensive list of all contracts with relevant supporting documents, as well as full details of fixed assets as documented in its  fixed asset register by Thursday, 21st of August, 2025.
