The Ogun State government has commenced the distribution of free eye reading glasses to over 80,000 residents across the State.
The Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola this was made known during the eye test and glasses distribution program of the Effective Spectacle Coverage Initiative Nigeria (ESCIN), Jigi Bola 2.0. a Presidential Initiative aimed at providing free glasses to individual aged 40 and above across the nation.
Dr. Ogunsola noted that the initiative was aimed at tackling and significantly reducing the burden of uncorrected refractive error diseases and visual impairment in the State.
He called on residents of the State with eye impairment to avail themselves of the opportunity by visiting all the designated primary Healthcare centers across the State for the free eye test and glasses to restore their vision.
In his remarks, Representative of the Director General, National Orientation Agency, Mr. Simon Idoko, noted that the programme was a federal government initiative aimed towards giving free vision and reading glasses to over 5 Million poor and vulnerable Nigerians across the country.
He noted that health personnel have been trained and equipped with screening kits to ensure qualitative service delivery at the various primary Healthcare centers in the State.
One of the beneficiary, Mrs. Mosun Adegbite from Odeda Local government area of the State applauded the initiative of the government saying the intervention would totally reduce blindness in the State and the country at large.
