President Bola Tinubu on Monday, August 18, announced the appointment of Opeyemi Agbaje, a former assistant general manager (AGM) at Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) as chairman of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The president made this appointment following a seven-day threat by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
A former executive director at the Metropolitan Bank, Agbaje joins PenCom with over four decades of professional experience spanning law, banking, and finance, among others.
The new PenCom chairman is also regarded as an astute leader in the fields of business, economy, and policy.
Agbaje, an alumnus of the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University graduated as a Law student in 1985.
In 1986, he was called to the Nigerian Bar and later obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the University of Lagos in 1989.
In 1997, he bagged an MBA from IESE Business School in Spain and is currently in the final stages of completing a doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Eaton Business School.
