The Nigerian Creative Industry has once again been described as a global economic power house that transcends beyond mere entertainment and side attraction.
This description was made by the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, while declaring open a workshop on Creative Youths Experience, with the theme: ‘’Framing the future”, at the June 12, Cultural Centre Abeokuta.
The States helmsman stated that the Creative Industry which used to be a sector not highly valued in the past had turned to a money spinning sector where talents are discovered, nurtured, groomed and thereafter become major contributors to the economic growth index, revealing that President Bola Tinubu's policies on youth development had opened doors of opportunity across varying sectors of the Nigerian economy, particularly in the Creative Industry, saying it clearly demonstrated his commitment to building a generation of empowered Nigerians.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Governor said the programme was not just an event, but a movement that places youths at the center of creativity, innovation and cultural preservation, noting that it aligned perfectly with the vision of his administration’s ‘Building our future Together Agenda’ and the Renewed Hope Agenda of Federal government.
Abiodun, reassured that the government would continue to support its youths with mentorship, resources and opportunities to ensure they lead Africa's creative enterprise, while charging them to allow passion for creativeness be their propelling force.
He stressed that Vocational training in the creative sector was not just about survival, rather about economic viability, self-determination and global recognition, saying the youth must see photography and videography as a needed modern skills mirroring windows into lives, opportunities and destinies.
Also speaking, Film Producer and Director, Tunde Kelani, urged photographers and videographers to use camera with conscience, challenge authority, celebrate beauty and hope, while charging youths to embrace culture as photography and videography was all about shaping the future.
Earlier in his remarks, the convener, Creative Youths Experience, Mr. Ayomide Ilesanmi, said the training which would be for 3 months, would create a platform where youths could thrive, properly trained and equipped to be relevant in today’s digital world.
