Court Stalls IGP Egbetokun’s Alleged Cybercrime Case Against Sowore

The case between Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and Omoyele Sowore over alleged cybercrime charges has suffered another setback at the Federal High Court.

The presiding judge, Justice M.S. Liman, was absent on Monday, marking the fourth time the matter has stalled due to his failure to sit.

Rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, in a post on his X handle, criticised the repeated delays and accused the IGP of hiding under the system.

Sowore stated on his X handle, “Today, at the Federal High Court, the case involving illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun on bogus cybercrime charges was stalled due to the absence of Justice M.S. Liman, marking his fourth absence from the case.”

The activist described the development as a deliberate attempt to frustrate justice, insisting that Nigerians must pay closer attention to the matter.

The case dates back to allegations that IGP Egbetokun was involved in filing fraudulent cybercrime charges against Sowore, a longtime critic of police actions in Nigeria.

Sowore has consistently condemned what he calls the “illegal” conduct of the IGP, describing the matter as part of a broader pattern of abuse of power within the police force.

As at the time of filing this report, no new date has been officially fixed for the continuation of the trial.
