The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (O-ORBDA) has commissioned Solar-powered Boreholes at Oke-Aje and Ita-Osu markets in Ijebu-Ode, aimed at alleviating the persistent water shortage faced by traders in the two markets.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Ijebu-Ode, Managing Director/CEO of the Authority, Engr. Adedeji Ashiru, represented by the Executive Director of Planning and Design, Hon. Femi Dokunmu, reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring access to safe and adequate water for all Nigerians.
Engr. Ashiru added that the solar-powered boreholes were equipped with water treatment plants to ensure clean water supply, while leveraging renewable energy for sustainable operation.
“The water is not for sale. I urge the market leaders to ensure proper maintenance of these facilities so that they can serve the markets efficiently and sustainably,’’ he said.
In their separate remarks, Iyaloja of Oke-Aje Market, represented by the Otun Iyaloja, Alhaja Ganiyat Adeleye and Iyaloja of Ita-Osu Market, Mrs. Oloruntele Ogunba, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of O-ORBDA, describing the project as a major relief, while pledging to ensure proper upkeep to sustain the availability of water in their respective markets.
