Ogun State House of Assembly through its Committee on Works and Infrastructure, led by Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, commended the quality of construction works in some of the ongoing road projects; while calling on the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to strengthen its supervision on some other ongoing road rehabilitation projects to aid quality control.

This, he noted would assist in ensuring quality and value for public resources in the finance of infrastructural facilities across the State.

Hon. Adeyanju made the call while leading other members of the Committee, including Honourables Yusuf Sherrif, Lukman Adeleye, Wasiu Ayodele, Samsudeen Lawal, Babatunde Tella, Yusuf Amosun and Wahab Haruna , during an oversight visit to sites of  road projects at Adesanolu Road in Mowe-Ibafo, Magboro Road in Obafemi Owode Local Government, Siun on the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Lantoro Road,  as well as Saje- Elega road along Baptist Boys High School, in Abeokuta.

The Committee Chairman commended the quality and speed of work at Magboro, describing the rehabilitation as satisfactory, but expressed concern at the standard of rehabilitation in some other sites visited.

He noted that the absence of adequate drainage in some locations and the failure of contractors to properly capture the scope of work needed to be addressed, urging the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya to step up monitoring and supervision.

He emphasized that strict oversight remained essential to ensure timely completion of the projects in line with their specifications, while reaffirming Governor Dapo Abiodun's commitment to balanced infrastructural development across the State.

In the same vein, the Committee on Works and Infrastructure has lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for his massive investment in road infrastructure across the State, while re- emphasizing the need for the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to step up measures towards monitoring the progress of construction works by contractors to ensure strict adherence to quality standards.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju, gave the commendation during the ongoing inspection of road projects in Ogun East axis, alongside other members including Honourables Lukman Adeleye and Adebisi Oyedele.

The lawmakers who were conducted round the projects by the site engineer, Engr. Abdulahi Tijani,  expressed satisfaction with the works done so far;  advising that the accompanying drainage channels be properly desilted and packed for effective water passage.

The lawmakers inspected Osinubi Road (1.1km), Abeokuta-Obalende Road (2.75km), and Ram Balogun Road (0.85km), all within Ijebu Ode Local Government and were being executed by Fort Hermon Construction Company.

Other projects visited by the lawmakers included the 3.175km Luba Road being handled by Picoroad Construction Limited, where the site engineer, Mr. Z. Ayman, complained of indiscriminate refuse dumping by residents; which prompted the Committee Chairman to immediately direct the Clerk of the Assembly to notify the Ijebu Ode Local Government Chairman to begin immediate public sensitization against indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The Committee also inspected the adjoining Luba Comprehensive School Road (320m) and Luba Stadium Road (800m) were also inspected, with the lawmakers expressing satisfaction at the quality of delivery.

Hon. Adeyanju, while reaffirming that Governor Abiodun is known for prioritizing quality standards in projects' implementation,  requested the Ministry to expedite action on the need to direct the contractor handling the Iworo-Ogbogbo-Igbeba Road to make necessary adjustments to meet the required standards.
