OGUN BPSR TUTOR ON PROACTIVE APPROACH TO CHANGE



Change Agents in Ogun State Public Service have been tutored on proactive approach to drive transformation, entrench reform and innovation needed in the discharge of their duties.


 Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye during his engagement meeting with selected change agents across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government in the State  in Abeokuta, stated that the aim of the gathering was to equip them with necessary skills that would improve their service delivery.


Mr. Oyeneye, in his presentation titled 'Preparation for Reformed Mindsets and Successes' defined reform as a method of converting knowledge to more functional use, advising them of continuous learning in order to build a better version that would improve them.


He noted that the key elements of reform were to inspire, motivate others and encourage creativity, pointing out that it strategies included stakeholders engagement, clear vision, experimentation and learning among others.


Delivering the first lecture titled "Ethical AI for Workplace Efficiency", a facilitator from Nigerian Institute of Traning and Development (NITAD), Mrs. Kofoworola Taiwo, represented by a member of the Chattered Institute of Personnel Management and Artificial Intelligence Consultant, Mrs. Abiodun Alabi, advised  change agents to identify in their daily tasks where AI could save time and reduce errors, adding that they should apply basic engineering to gather results from Al platform with policies that protect data privacy and align with government regulations.


Mrs. Taiwo said the use of AI should improve their productivity, also code of conducts should guide its usage in order to protect risks that might occur in workplace and they should avoid it’s over reliance.


On his part, Director, Strategic Communications, Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Abuja, Mallam Aliyu Umar in his lecture titled' Current Trends in Public Reforms' disclosed that the benefits of reforms in public service included public confidence in governance, accountability and promotion of private sector investment.


Mallam Umar said reform could fail due to insufficient stakeholders buy-in, poor planning and design, inadequate resources, weak implementation capacity, insufficient monitoring and evaluation among others.


Responding on behalf of the change agents, Mrs Abolanle Ogunlami appreciated the organisers of the programme, saying that the meeting was thought-provoking as it inspired public servants to think out of the box in order to make a desired change.
