As the world marks World Pharmacists Day, the Chairman of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, ( P.S.N), Ogun state Branch, Pharm.(Mrs) Oyesunlola Okunuga  has called for better integration of pharmacists into Nigeria’s healthcare system, highlighting their vital role in improving community health outcomes.

In a statement made available to Newsmen to  commemorate the day in Abeokuta, Okunuga emphasized that Pharmacists are often the first point of contact for many Nigerians seeking healthcare services and should be more involved in community health programs, saying continuing professional development for it's members is key.

Highlighting this Year theme, "Think Health, Think Pharmacist", encapsulates the essence of the pharmacy profession and the growing recognition that healthcare is not merely about medicines but about people.

In her Words, "Pharmacists are more than just dispensers of medicines — we are trained healthcare professionals who play a critical role in health promotion, medication management, and chronic disease monitoring,” she said.

Pharm Okunuga disclose that through outreach, policy dialogues, and collaborations, Ogun Pharmacists continue to place the patient at the center of their work.

She then urge that policymakers must create enabling environments that allows pharmacist to fully utilize their skills in all levels of healthcare adding that the public must also take advantage of the pharmacist's accessibility by seeking their expertise not only for medicine but also for preventive healthcare.

In the same vein, the Public Relations Officer, Pharm. Babajide Otubanjo disclose that the Society will also organise a day workshop tagged "Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care" for Pharmacists in Ogun State in conjunction with the Ogun State Drug Control Committee  (O.S.D.C.C) to commemorate the World Pharmacists Day 2025.

World Pharmacists Day is celebrated every September 25 to acknowledge the role of Pharmacists in improving health worldwide.
