The Ogun State Government, under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun has stated that it remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding cultural values while harnessing the state’s rich heritage to stimulate local enterprise, generate employment, and advance sustainable tourism.
Governor Dapo Abiodun stated this at the occasion of the 39th Akesan Day Festival Celebration held at the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu themed : "Building A Stronger And United Iperu Akesan Land".
In his speech, the governor emphasized the economic potential of culture as an asset that attracts investment, strengthening communal trust and inspires future generations while highlighting the importance of investing in culture and heritage to promote shared cultural identity and social harmony.
According to him, Nigeria stands to benefit immensely if its numerous cultural festivals are fully developed and promoted as many countries across the world have diversified their economies through the promotion of culture and tourism.
“Festivals like this bring thousands of visitors who patronize local businesses, artisans, entertainers, food vendors, hotels and of course, our transport operators,” Abiodun said.
“When properly harnessed, cultural celebrations become platforms tourism like the Lisabi Day, Oronna Day, Ojude Oba, Remo Day and many more. They create jobs employment and attract investments’” Abiodun explained.
He stated the role of his administration in delivering progress, supporting community development and the need for the communities to embrace hardwork, mutual respect and community spirit across Ogun State.
In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi admonished the indigenes of Iperu to renew and ensure a collective resolve to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and peaceful Ogun State.
"Through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, strong institutional frameworks have been established to deepen cultural awareness and ensure that traditions continue to inspire pride, foster unity, and drive prosperity for generations to come", Hon. Fagbayi emphasized.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman 2025 Akesan Day Planning Committee, Otunba Wale Abdul applauded the State Government's passion and zeal towards promoting cultural preservation across the State and the unprecedented feat achieved since his administration came on board, evidence in NCC of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu amongst other feats.
