A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has set up a new Board of Trustees.
The event took place on Friday as the group continued its internal restructuring efforts.
During the inauguration, the factional Acting Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, took a swipe at the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees, saying it had “lost moral balance.”
He described the ceremony as a fresh chapter in the party’s struggle to reclaim its founding ideals.
In his words, “We have come together, not merely to inaugurate a new Board of Trustees, but to renew our faith in the ideals that gave birth to this great political family – justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law.”
Mohammed added that the PDP was built on unity and service, not domination. He lamented that internal conflicts and poor leadership had weakened the foundation of the party over the years.
He accused the previous BoT of drifting away from its original mission, saying, “The previous Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, sadly lost the moral balance expected of that noble institution.”
According to him, Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter of the party over alleged anti-party activities became unavoidable. He said the leadership had lost credibility, making its continued advisory role impossible.
Mohammed further criticized the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, accusing him of “choosing convenience over the constitution and personal loyalty over the rule of law.”
However, the faction’s leaders maintained that the newly inaugurated BoT would help restore order, transparency, and moral discipline within the PDP.
They also pledged to rebuild confidence among party members who had grown frustrated with internal divisions.
