Fusengbuwa Ruling House Notified to Submit Candidates for the Next Awujale of Ijebuland

…given a 14-day ultimatum to present candidates

The succession process for the throne of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland formally commenced on Tuesday as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House received an official notification letter mandating them to present candidates for the revered stool.

The presentation of the notification letter and the Awujale’s Staff, held in Agunsebi, Ijebu-Ode, was witnessed by the Olori Ebi of the Fusengbuwa lineage, princes and princesses of the ruling house, as well as officials of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government led by the Secretary to the Local Government.

Speaking at the event, the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dare Alebiosu—ably represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Oke Abiodun Adebanjo—expressed appreciation for the presence of the royal family and other dignitaries.

He described the day as a significant milestone in the transition process following the passage of the iconic monarch, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, whose reign was distinguished by peace, honour, and remarkable development in Ijebuland.

Mr. Adebanjo emphasized that, in line with the traditional rotational structure and the legal provisions guiding the succession process, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has been given 14 days to present qualified candidates for the vacant Awujale stool.

He added that the presentation of the notification letter marks the beginning of a transparent and unifying selection process rooted in respect for Ijebu customs and traditions. He further noted that the Ogbeni Odi would proceed with the Awujale’s Staff of Office as required by tradition, signifying the continuation of the transition rites.

Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, assured those present that the ruling house is fully prepared for the responsibility ahead and will present worthy and qualified candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Ruling House, Professor Adetokunbo Fassy Yusuf, reaffirmed the house’s commitment to due process, stressing that only credible and qualified individuals will be put forward in accordance with tradition, the law, and the expectations of the Ijebu nation.

With the formal notification delivered, the race toward the emergence of the next Awujale has officially begun, marking a historic moment for the Fusengbuwa dynasty and the entire Ijebuland.
