Residents of Isabo in Abeokuta South and Fijabi Bode Olude in Odeda Local Government Areas on Friday, erupted in celebration following the delivery of two new electric transformers facilitated by Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, representing Ogun Central Senatorial District.
The intervention, which targets a protracted power crisis, will see one transformer serve seven communities within Isabo: Wasimi Araromi, Ago Egun, Odofin, and four others. The second transformer is designated for the Ilupeju Fijabi Bode Olude community.
For many, the delivery marks the end of a grueling period without electricity. Muhamodu Dauda Owolabi Qasimi, Youth Leader of Wasimi Araromi Isabo, revealed the community had endured over eight months in darkness, relying on a transformer installed in 1975. "We thank the senator for giving us this," he stated.
Alhaji Qasimi Elediye, Chairman of the Electric Committee for the seven Isabo communities, detailed the financial and emotional toll. "It has become a nightmare for us to repair the old one. We have contributed so much money every time it faulted," he explained. "Today, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu has deemed it fit to give us a transformer. We thank him for the wonderful job."
The impact on livelihoods was severe. Mrs. Balikis Oluwole from Odofin community described how the blackout crippled local enterprise. "For over 8 months we were unable to do our business because there was no light. Some of us turned to beggars. We appreciate the Senator for coming to our rescue."
In Fijabi Bode Olude, community leaders expressed profound gratitude. Mr. Mustafa, Chairman of the Ilupeju Fijabi Bode Olude Community Development Committee, pledged unwavering political support, promising "maximum votes" for the senator. A former chairman of the community confirmed that Senator Salisu had made a promise and kept it.
Echoing the sentiment, resident Mr. Sulemon Yusuf said, "We pray for him and we promise to support him every time."
Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, who also chairs the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, confirmed the delivery. He stated the equipment is part of his "ongoing commitment to improving the living conditions and economic productivity of his constituents" and promised to ensure the transformers are energized immediately.
The new transformers are expected to stabilize electricity distribution, reduce frequent outages, and support households and small businesses in these areas of the state capital, signaling a significant boost to local economic activity and quality of life.
