Ijebu Ode Grammar School, one of the oldest and most prestigious secondary schools in Ogun State, is set to celebrate its 113th Founders’ Day, marking over a century of academic excellence, discipline, and outstanding contributions to nation-building.
Founded in 1913, with its Old Students Association, Ijebu Ode Grammar School Old Students Association (JOGSOBA), established in 1922, the school has remained a beacon of quality education.
Over the years, it has produced generations of leaders, professionals, and patriots who have distinguished themselves in various fields within Nigeria and beyond.
The 113th Founders’ Day celebration provides an opportunity for the school community, old students, staff, and well-wishers to reflect on its rich history, enduring values, and remarkable achievements.
The celebration, which commenced with a press conference, is expected to feature a series of activities including thanksgiving services, a dinner night, cultural displays, and reunion events aimed at reconnecting alumni with their alma mater.
Speaking at the press conference, the National President of JOGSOBA, Otunba Ayokunle Bolujoko, stated that the Founders’ Day ceremony is meant to celebrate the wisdom and vision of the founding fathers of Ijebu Ode Grammar School.
He added that it also provides an avenue for old students to fraternize and renew their bonds with one another and with the school.
While appreciating old students for giving back to the school through various infrastructural projects, Otunba Bolujoko also commended the Ogun State Government for its efforts in uplifting the standard of education generally and improving infrastructure in particular.
In his words, “I make bold to say that the old students are greatly complementing the efforts of the state government in maintaining the school’s infrastructure. From the upgraded school entrance and front façade to the sports arena and the enormous solar lighting system that enhances security, among numerous other projects.”
He further revealed that the Old Students Association recently built and commissioned an archive centre for the preservation and safekeeping of the school’s historical records.
Also speaking, a member of the Board of Trustees of JOGSOBA, Engr. Ebenezer Osoba, noted that the celebration underscores pride, unity, and the enduring spirit of Ijebu Ode Grammar School.
As the school marks this significant milestone, the focus remains on sustaining its tradition of academic excellence while embracing innovation and development to meet modern educational demands. The 113th Founders’ Day celebration is not only a reflection on the past but also a reaffirmation of commitment to shaping future generations through sound education and moral discipline.
