The Ogun Ex-Lawmaker and Two terms Federal House of Representatives, who represented Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency, Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan, popularly called (JKA), says the tax reform by the federal government is a sign of good things to come for the majority of Nigerians, especially the low-income earners.
Hon. Amusan explained that the new tax law if fully come to effective would bring sanity into the practice and administration of taxation in Nigeria, adding that it will make the system better.
The Ex-Lawmaker stated this while hosting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, which held at his residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the state capital.
“In fact, the new tax law will improve the revenue of the nation, and will also bring sanity into the practice and administration of taxation in the country. So, I urge Nigerians to support the new tax law because it is a good omen for the nation,” he pleaded.
Hon. Amusan explained that the meeting with the APC members at the grassroots was to formally mobilise support for President Tinubu across the 20 LGAs and 236 wards across the state, under what he described as the “PBAT Movement," stating that the President’s performance across key sectors of the economy justified continuity in office beyond 2027.
He said the disproportionately high rate imposed on self-employed people has been addressed in the new tax law, noting that citizens must pay their taxes so that they would not defraud themselves of facilities that government will provide for them.
“In fact, before we are robbing the government of revenue that they will use to work. We are also robbing ourselves of the services that we ought to enjoy from government that are paying the revenue to, so the new tax law is indeed, very good for us," Hon. Amusan said.
According to him, "And that’s essentially my very important message for you to know. Go home also with. And the new tax law is very good. The four new tax law that has been promoted by the federal government is good in content.
"What we are saying, as we take off to apply it from this month, government is determined to apply it as prescribed in the law, so that it will not go down with those reforms that will not be seen by the people, benefited by them,” he insisted.
