The Ogun State Ministry of Transportation has commenced a comprehensive traffic re-engineering exercise on major roads across the State to enhance road safety and ensure the free flow of traffic, particularly at critical intersections, U-turns and high-traffic corridors.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing works, Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Olugbenga Dairo, represented by the Director of Transport Engineering, Engr. Hassan Ibrahim, said the intervention covered major highways and urban roads in Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Sango-Ota and Sagamu.

He added that, the exercise would involve the marking of zebra crossings and the installation of traffic signs at strategic locations, including Sagamu and Ota, as he revealed that additional traffic signs had been installed at the Lafenwa U-turn, near the First Bank and the Brewery Junction, to improve traffic movement and safeguard road users, noting that similar interventions would soon be extended to the Sagamu Interchange and Express Junction.

He also disclosed further, that routine maintenance and rehabilitation of traffic light systems had been carried out at Iyana Mortuary, Sapon and other key junctions to ensure optimal performance.

Ibrahim said, the exercise was aimed at improving the visibility, standardisation and effectiveness of traffic control devices across the State.  He urged motorists, pedestrians and other road users to obey traffic signs and signals, stressing that compliance was critical to the protection of lives and property.

 "The exercise was continuous and formed part of broader efforts to promote discipline, sanity and adherence to modern traffic engineering standards across the four geographical zones of the state,’’ he said.

          He added that road signs and traffic lights were essential traffic control infrastructure that facilitated smooth vehicular and pedestrian movement, reduced congestion and significantly minimised road traffic crashes.

The director therefore called on road users to cooperate with traffic authorities by adhering strictly to traffic signals and other road furniture, noting that collective responsibility was key to achieving a safe and reliable transportation system in Ogun State.
