The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has inaugurated 11 standing committees comprising 90 members chosen from different chapels of the union as part of efforts to strengthen internal administration and advance the union’s programmes for the year 2026.
The inauguration ceremony held on Monday, at the Olusegun Osoba Hall, Iwe Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, had in attendance members cut across different media organizations in the state.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Union , Comrade Wale Olanrewaju described the inauguration as a strategic move aimed at promoting professionalism, capacity building, welfare, and effective engagement among journalists in the state.
Olanrewaju noted that the various committees inaugurated would be saddled with different responsibilities critical to the growth and sustainability of the union.
These include the Capacity Development & Programme Exchange, chaired by Comrade Adeyinka Richards, with Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju serving as Co-Chairman, while Ventures & Assets Management Committee is headed by Comrade Abiodun Lawal.
Other key committees include the Membership Revalidation; Ethics & Disciplinary Committee chaired by Comrade Tunde Sodeke, and the Media Parliament/Guest Forum Committee with Comrade Wole Otayemi as its chairman.
The 2026 Press Week Committee, a major highlight of the union’s annual activities, is chaired by Comrade Emmanuel Oke, while the Ramadan Lecture/Iftar Committee is led by Comrade Azeez Olorunlomeru and Social and Welfare Committee is chaired by Comrade Abiodun Taiwo, reflecting the union’s commitment to members’ wellbeing.
Also inaugurated was the Project Development Committee, chaired by Comrade Femi Adeleye, with Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju as Co-Chairman, while the Media and Publicity Committee is headed by Comrade Gift Oba, with Comrade Mathew Sowunmi as Secretary.
The NUJ chairman urged the members to see their appointments as a call to service and to work collaboratively in advancing the objectives of the NUJ in Ogun State.
He also encouraged them to discharge their duties with dedication, transparency, and professionalism.
