As part of efforts to address the shortage of teachers in public primary schools, particularly in rural communities, the Ogun State Government has engaged no fewer than 448 OgunTeach interns, who have now received their engagement and posting letters.
The letters were presented to the successful applicants at the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, explained that the engagement was specifically targeted at rural schools and urged the interns to accept their postings in good faith.
“If you go to anybody to ask for a change of posting, the moment anybody calls me for a change, we will remove your name straight. There are many people seeking this opportunity, and you should appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for making it possible," Ifede said.
He directed the interns to resume duty immediately upon receiving their letters, stressing that failure to do so would result in their replacement. According to him, prompt submission of assumption-of-duty documents was crucial to avoid delays in salary processing.
“We do not want your payment to be delayed. However, payment is based on those who submit their assumption of duty early, so that processing can commence,” the SUBEB chairman clarified.
Ifede further advised the interns to cooperate with their Headteachers and colleagues, urging them to see the engagement as a call to service, rather than a 'national cake,' noting that commitment and dedication would determine their eligibility for permanent appointment.
“Basic education is critical. We want teachers who are determined to do the job effectively. Ensure that your learners can read, write and communicate properly,” he said.
Earlier, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr Femi Fatade, stated that the selection of the interns was strictly based on merit, adding that postings were carried out in line with the specific needs of rural schools across the State.
Speaking on behalf of the interns, Mr Adedayo Taiwo expressed appreciation to the State government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun for the opportunity, pledging that the beneficiaries would discharge their duties diligently and in line with expectations required.
