REPORT: Nigerians Spend Over ₦1.5trn On Beer Amid Rising Costs



Nigerians Spent An Estimated ₦1.54 Trillion On Beer And Other Beverages In The First Nine Months Of 2025, According To Unaudited Financial Statements From The Country’s Three Major Listed Brewers.


The Figures Were Drawn From The Financial Results Of Nigerian Breweries Plc, International Breweries Plc And Champion Breweries Plc.


Nigerian Breweries, The Largest Brewer In The Country, Accounted For The Bulk Of Sales, Recording ₦1.05 Trillion In Net Revenue Between January And September 2025.


The Figure Represents A Significant Increase From The ₦710.87 Billion Posted In The Corresponding Period Of 2024.


The Company Also Returned To Profitability, Reporting A Profit After Tax Of ₦85.51 Billion Compared With A ₦149.50 Billion Loss Recorded In The Previous Year.


International Breweries Followed With ₦472.57 Billion In Revenue During The Period Under Review.


This Marks An Increase From The ₦343.45 Billion Recorded In The First Nine Months Of 2024.


The Brewer Also Posted A Profit After Tax Of ₦57.83 Billion, Reversing A ₦112.81 Billion Loss Recorded In The Prior Year.


Champion Breweries, Though Smaller In Scale, Recorded Notable Growth During The Period, As The Company’s Revenue Rose To ₦21.44 Billion From ₦14.02 Billion In 2024. Its Profit After Tax Also Climbed To ₦2.05 Billion, Up From ₦21.5 Million In The Previous Year.


The Results Underline The Resilience Of Nigeria’s Beer Market, Which Continues To Benefit From Strong Brand Loyalty And Extensive Distribution Networks.


However, The Figures Also Reflect Changing Consumer Behaviour, As Some Nigerians Cut Back On Beer Consumption Amid Economic Pressures.
