SLG LAUNCHES MEASLES- RUBELLA VACCINATION CAMPAIGN



Sagamu Local Government in collaboration with Ogun State Primary Healthcare Board has launched Measles - Rubella Vaccination, an exercise aimed at preventing diseases and improving children health in the area.

Speaking at the commencement of the exercise,  at the Primary Health Centre, Makun, Chairman, Sagamu Local government, Ogbeni Jubril Odulate, said that the campaign was in line with the State government’s effort aimed at reducing morbidity, mortality, improve immunisation coverage, thus, meeting national and global health targets, appreciating the Governor for his giant stride in the health sector.

“This exercise is a clear demonstration of our commitment to qualitative and effective healthcare delivery, especially our children who are the future leaders, we thank our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for improving the health sector to meet up with global health target,” he said.

He encouraged residents to take advantage of the exercise and ensure their children were immunised to prevent them from diseases, urging them to cooperate with health workers and community mobilisers to ensure the success of the programme targeted against Measles - Rubella and other preventable diseases.

 He reiterated the Council’s commitment to preventive measures, describing immunisation as one of the most cost- effective ways to protect children against life- threatening diseases and safeguard the future of the communities.


Speaking earlier, Director, Primary Healthcare, Sagamu LG, Dr. Israel Orire explained that the exercise would cover routine immunisation for children from aged 0-23 months, while Measles-Rubella Vaccination would be for children from aged 9 months to 14years as well as Human papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination for girls, aged 9 years, stressing that the vaccines are safe and effective.

Dr. Orire added that the exercise would take place across Sagamu Local Government Areas, with teams deployed to all Primary Healthcare Cxenters (PHCs), schools, markets, mosques, churches and designated outreach locations to ensure wide coverage and easy access for residents, urging them to ensure their children are immunised to jointly reduce children mortality in the society.
