A Federal High Court In Abuja Has Cleared The Way For The Trial Of African Action Congress Presidential Candidate, Omoyele Sowore, After Admitting Key Evidence Presented By The Department Of State Services.
The Materials Relate To Comments In Which Sowore Described President Bola Tinubu As “Criminal”.
The Ruling Was Delivered On Thursday By Justice Mohammed Umar. The Court Dismissed An Attempt By The Defence To Block The DSS From Tendering Digital Materials Linked To The Alleged Offence.
With The Decision, The Prosecution Was Allowed To Place Before The Court A Flash Drive Containing Video Clips, Screenshots Of Social Media Posts, And Related Public Reactions.
During Proceedings, The DSS Played A Video Recording In Open Court. The Clip Reportedly Showed Sowore Making The Remark In August 2025.
The Presentation Followed Testimony By The First Prosecution Witness, Cyril Nosike, A DSS Operative, Who Was Led In Evidence By The Agency’s Counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde, SAN.
Beyond The Video, The Prosecution Also Submitted Screenshots Of Messages Shared By Sowore On His X Account And Meta Platform, Formerly Facebook. These Materials Included Responses Generated By The Posts, Alongside A Certificate Of Compliance To Support Their Admissibility.
Counsel To Sowore, Marshal Abubakar, Did Not Oppose The Tendering At That Stage. He Reserved Objections For The Final Written Addresses. Justice Umar Admitted The Items And Marked Them As Exhibits.
After The Prosecution Closed The Evidence-In-Chief Of Its First Witness, The Defence Requested Time To Review The Witness Statement And Other Documents Earlier Served On Them. The Court Granted The Request.
Justice Umar Adjourned The Matter To January 27 For Cross-Examination Of The Prosecution Witness And Continuation Of The Trial.
However, Sowore Is The Sole Defendant In The Amended Charge, Marked FHC/ABJ/CR/484/2025, Which Was Filed On December 5.
