ZONAL OFFICERS CHARGED ON DEDICATION, PROACTIVENESS TO DUTY




The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr. Waheed Adesina, has charged Zonal Information Officers to remain dedicated, proactive and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities, stressing that effective information management is critical to good governance.

Mr. Adesina, gave the charge while addressing Zonal Information Officers during a strategic meeting at the Ministry’s Conference room, Oke-Mosan Abeokuta, noting that officers at the zonal levels serve as the bridge between government and the grassroots.

According to the PS, the role of Information Officers transcended beyond routine reporting, adding that they were expected to project government policies, programmes and achievements accurately while countering misinformation with facts.

“You are the eyes, ears and voice of government at the grassroots. Your dedication, integrity and commitment to duty will determine how well government activities are understood and appreciated by the people,” the Permanent Secretary said.

He urged the officers to embrace professionalism, continuous self-development and teamwork with other zonal Officers, while leveraging on modern communication tools to enhance timely and credible information dissemination.

The PS also emphasised the need for loyalty, discipline and adherence to ethical standards with Director of information in their various LGAs, reminding them that public trust depends largely on the credibility of information released by government officials.

Lending his own voice, Director of Information, Strategy, Mr. Tola Odutayo, appreciated the PS for the meeting and fatherly roles, promising on behalf of the zonal Officers that better results would be achieved.

In their responses, two of the Zonal Information Officers from Sagamu, Iyabo Araba and Yewa south, Ajarat Omikunle, commended the Permanent Secretary for guidance, pledging to rededicate themselves to their duties and support the Ministry’s mandate of effective public enlightenment.

The meeting ended with a call for renewed commitment to service delivery and sustained engagement with communities to promote transparency and good governance.
