OGUN East Independent Chapel Pays Condolence Visit to Onabanjo Family

The OGUN East Independent Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief (Mrs.) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, former First Lady of Ogun State and wife of the first civilian Governor of Ogun State, the late Chief Bisi Onabanjo.

The delegation, led by the Secretary of the Chapel, Comrade Funmilayo Adewoju Suleodu, alongside other respected members of the Chapel, conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the union to the bereaved family.

During the visit, members described the late Chief Mrs. Onabanjo as a woman of grace, humility, and quiet strength who played a supportive and dignified role throughout her husband’s historic tenure in office.

They noted that her life reflected strong family values, service to community, and moral integrity that positively impacted many within and beyond Ogun State.

Prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of her soul and for divine comfort and strength for the Onabanjo family at this difficult time. The Chapel urged the family to take solace in the enduring legacy of love, service, and honour she left behind.

On behalf of the Executive and entire members of the Chapel, appreciation was also extended to all members who participated in the visit, commending their show of solidarity, compassion, and unity.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun East Council, on behalf of the NUJ Ogun State Council, further reiterated its heartfelt condolences to the Onabanjo family.

The union acknowledged the remarkable life of Mama Onabanjo as a teacher, former First Lady, and respected community figure whose life of dignity and service touched many lives.

The Chapel also recalled with pride the enduring contributions of her late husband, Chief Bisi Onabanjo, to the growth of journalism and the media landscape in Ogun State.

His administration was widely regarded for its openness to the press and respect for media practice, which created an enabling environment for journalism to thrive during a formative period in the state’s history.

The NUJ prayed that the Almighty God grants the family the fortitude to bear the loss and that her gentle soul rests in perfect peace.

Signed:
