President Bola Tinubu Is Reportedly Under Immense Pressure To Sack Some Of His Appointees In The Federal Executive Council.
A Group, APC League Of Democrats, On Monday, Made The Call In A Statement Signed By Babajide Oyewole, National Coordinator, And Rowland Okonkwo, Secretary.
The Statement Which Was Made Available To Journalists In Abuja Said Cabinet Reshuffling Was Long Overdue And Called For The Removal Of Some Ministers.
The Group Urged Tinubu Not To Delay The Exercise, Warning That Further Delay Could Harm The Government And The APC’s Chances In The 2027 General Elections.
Part Of The Statement Read: “We Are Seasoned Politicians And Can Read Between Lines When Appointees Are Working Anticlockwise To Sabotage The Good Intentions And Programs Of The Very Government They Seem To Be Representing.
“This Is Not The First Time. We Have Seen It All And We Would Not Allow History To Repeat Itself. It Happened To President Goodluck Jonathan, Some Of Us Saw It Coming And We Raised Alarm, But Nothing Was Done.”
The Group Specifically Named Wale Edun, Minister Of Finance And Coordinating Minister Of The Economy, And Doris Uzoka-Anite, Minister Of State For Finance, As Those Who Should Be Relieved Of Their Duties.
“Those Ministers Who Are Up And Doing, Like The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Minister Of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, That Of Works, Dave Umahi, Could Be Retained In Their Current Positions, While Most Of Them Should Be Reshuffle, To Give Room For Efficiency And Service Delivery.
“The Two Ministers Controlling Finance, Wale Edun And Doris Uzoka-Anite Must Be Relieved Of Their Duties, As A Matter Of Urgency, And In The Best Interest Of Our Great Party And National Peace,” It Added.
The Group Accused The Finance Ministers Of Failing To Implement The President’s Directive On Resolving The Impasse Between The Federal Government And Indigenous Contractors.
It Said Tinubu Had Directed That Local Contractors Owed A Cumulative N4 Trillion Since 2024 Be Paid.
According To The Statement, The Ministers’ Alleged Refusal To Comply Amounts To Sabotage Of Efforts To Revive The Economy.
The Group Said The Situation Has Damaged Nigeria’s Image And Discouraged Potential Investors.
“One Thing The Ministers Have Refused To Understand Is That, A Protest Anywhere Against The Government Is Characteristically Positioned To Damage The Image Of That Government And Demarket It By Reducing Its Public Image In The Eyes Of The International Community,” It Said.
“No One Would Like To Invest In An Economy That Is Not Progressing And No Circulation,” The Statement Added.
The Group Said Non-Payment Of Contractors Has Worsened Economic Hardship And Reduced Currency Circulation, Warning That The Situation Could Affect The APC’s Electoral Prospects.
“The Worst Hit, Which We Would Not Take, Is The Tendency Of Affecting The APC Chances In 2027,” The Statement Reads.
“We Would Not Allow Sabotages To Rewrite History Of 2015 In The Coming Elections. The President Must Rise To These Patriotic Calls By Nigerians And Do The Needful, Before It Is Too Late,” It Said.
The Association Of Indigenous Contractors Of Nigeria Has Been Protesting At The Ministry Of Finance For Two Weeks Over Unpaid Contracts.
Despite Interventions By The National Assembly And The President, The Contractors Have Continued The Protest.
