Authorities of the Ijebu Ode Local Government have issued a public warning to residents and business owners to desist from making cash payments for levies and taxes, as part of efforts to enhance transparency and curb revenue leakages.
In a statement released by the council, the local government stressed that all payments for approved taxes and levies must be made through official channels and via the designated POS machines provided by the council.
The directive, according to the statement, is aimed at blocking loopholes often exploited by unauthorized individuals who collect cash illegally in the name of the council.
The statement further advised members of the public not to give cash to any contractors or officials from the Environmental and Sanitation Department.
It added that anyone insisting on cash payments should be reported while Residents are also encouraged to take photographs of such individuals and forward them to the local government authorities through the following numbers: Vice Chairman – 08054853548, SLG – 08033944257.
The council added that anyone who provides useful evidence leading to the exposure of such illegal activities will be rewarded with up to three times the amount paid.
