“Nigeria is Next After Iran” – Expert Warns of Possible U.S. Military Target

A Nigerian foreign policy expert has raised concerns that Nigeria could face future military pressure from the United States following tensions involving Iran.

The warning was issued by Prof. Femi Otubanjo, a Research Professor at the Institute of International Affairs.

He said global politics is entering a dangerous phase where weaker nations may become targets of powerful military states.

Otubanjo spoke during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Tuesday. He argued that war remains a major driver of the American economy and that conflict is often sustained to support arms production and sales.

According to him, the United States has carried out military interventions in more than 58 countries across the world. He described this pattern as proof that the American military system depends on continuous conflict for survival.

The professor also said President Donald Trump would eventually align with powerful military interests despite earlier claims of changing America’s global approach. He added that the military establishment would not allow any administration to abandon war-related economic benefits.

He said:

“The military industrial complex in America is a constant, and they are always looking for war. As we speak, if you count the number of times Americans have intervened and fought, we are talking about over 58 times. So it’s an economy that is based on war.

“So when Trump came in and was doing his usual boasting, ‘I can do this, I can transform. I can change the direction of the wind or challenge direction of the sun,’ it was obvious that the military industrial complex haven’t walked up to him.

“They look for war because they have to sell their weapons. And so the United States has a lot to gain. But beyond the United States, Trump himself has a lot to gain from this war.

“First Trump is a delusional person. He thinks that America has power and America must use it to get whatever it wants.

“So it’s not going to be Iran, after Iran, there will be others. There will be Cuba, there will be South Africa. And if we are not lucky, there will be Nigeria. If you are not a nuclear power then be prepared for Trump.”

Otubanjo warned that countries without nuclear capability remain vulnerable in global power politics. He listed Iran, Cuba, and South Africa as nations that could face future military pressure, alongside Nigeria.

However, He stressed that Nigeria must strengthen its diplomatic position and national security strategy to avoid being drawn into external conflicts driven by global power struggles.
