APC Leaders Adopt Former OCoS as Consensus Candidate for Ipokia/Yewa South Reps Seat

Former Ogun State Chief of Staff, Dr. Emmanuel Toyin Taiwo has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, ahead of the party’s forthcoming direct primary.

His emergence was ratified at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by prominent leaders and elders from the Federal Constituency, including former Deputy Governor, Salimat Badru Makanjuola.

Speaking at the meeting, Makanjuola described the consensus decision as “a product of wide consultations and unity of purpose among party leaders committed to sustaining progressive governance in Ogun West.”

“We carefully considered competence, loyalty, and grassroots connection in arriving at this decision. Dr. Taiwo possesses the administrative experience and political maturity required to represent the constituency effectively at the National Assembly,” she said.

Dr. Taiwo, who until his emergence served as Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun, was widely acknowledged by party leaders for his strategic role in governance and policy coordination within the state.

In his goodwill message, former House of Representative Member, Hon Adekunle Akinlade, noted that Taiwo’s proximity to government operations would be an added advantage. “Having worked closely with the governor, he understands the development agenda of the state and will be able to attract federal presence and projects to Ipokia and Yewa South,” Akinlade said.

Also , Hon Mufutau Ajibola and Chief (Mrs) Iyabo Apampa, said the consensus arrangement underscores the party’s commitment to cohesion and electoral victory. “This is not about imposition but about strengthening unity within the party. We are confident that Dr. Taiwo will carry every segment of the constituency along,” they stated.

In his remarks, Dr. Taiwo expressed appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the trust if elected.

“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility. This is not just a personal victory but a collective resolve to advance the interests of our people. I will prioritise inclusive representation, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Ipokia and Yewa South,” he said.

Taiwo, who hails from Ifoyintedo Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area, also emphasised his grassroots connection, noting that he is well acquainted with the socio-economic challenges of the constituency.

“I understand the yearnings of our people because I am part of them. I will work tirelessly to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs addressed through effective legislation and strategic partnerships,” he added.

The party’s decision is expected to be formally affirmed during the APC direct primary, as constituents and party faithful have continued to express confidence in Taiwo’s capacity to deliver democratic dividends to the constituency.
